The Green Team behind the Green Key
Pean-buiten Akkrum is Green Key Gold certified, and Weidum is well on its way. To this end, there is a dedicated Green Team that maintains Gold in Akkrum and works towards Gold for Weidum.
Who does what?
Emil and Astrid manage the boats and the buildings. Yvonne looks after the office. Marjan takes care of the gardens, ecologically. Joëlle and Perry ensure the kitchen runs smoothly and sustainably. That way, everyone holds onto a piece.
Separate waste, even on vacation
You are asked to separate your waste. Each accommodation is equipped for this, with separate bins for paper, glass, organic waste, plastic, and residual waste.
How do you know what belongs where?
Upon arrival, the process is explained. It really makes a difference, and it costs you nothing more than paying attention. Whatever remains leaves the premises separately.
Electricity from our own roof
All water lodges on Pean-buiten Akkrum has solar panels. As a result, they are self-sufficient in electricity for most of the year, while you simply cook, shower, and heat there.
Is there still gas in the lodge?
No. The water lodges are disconnected from the gas grid. You cook using induction. This ensures that your stay by the water remains energy-efficient, even behind the meter box.
Saving water without you noticing
The showers and taps on Pean-buiten They are water-saving. You shower with just as much comfort, only less water is used.
What happens to the rainwater?
This is collected in large rain barrels. It is used to water the vegetable garden, and the chickens get fresh water from it. This way, the water comes in handy twice.

What do I notice as a guest regarding sustainability?
You separate your waste, and we explain how. You won't find any disposable plastic. We encourage drinking tap water, and we clean with natural products.
Furthermore, we collect rainwater, and there are water-saving toilets and showers and a private wastewater filter.
May I pick from the food forest?
Yes. On Pean-buiten In Akkrum, a food forest of approximately one hectare is situated between the holiday homes. Among the plants growing there are blackberries, raspberries, currants, medlars, nuts, figs, quince, sage, lemon balm, thyme, and rosemary.
Feel free to pick whatever you eat that day.
How do you separate the waste?
Each accommodation has separate bins for paper, glass, organic waste, plastic, and residual waste. You will be informed of how things work here upon arrival.
Can I charge my electric car?
Op Pean-buiten In Akkrum, there are six charging stations at one hundred parking spaces. Pean-buiten In Weidum, there is one charging station for approximately eighty spaces.
Do you do anything for nature on the site itself?
Yes. There is nesting habitat for birds, insects, and bats, and there is a pond. On Pean-buiten In Weidum, a flower-rich strip for biodiversity is growing behind Boarn, including teasels.
And there are house rules regarding darkness and silence after certain hours.
