Fishing in Friesland, from two locations
Pean-buiten It has two places where you can fish all year round, and they are not the same.
Op Pean-buiten In Akkrum, you are situated on the Greft, right next to De Alde Feanen National Park. Pean-buiten The Swette lies right on Weidum's doorstep, a sheltered waterway where there is something to catch all year round.
At both locations, you sleep by the water and are on shore within a minute.

Op Pean-buiten In Akkrum, you can fish from the jetty by your water lodge, or take an electric sloop and sail into De Alde Feanen National Park. All year round, even in winter.
What do you catch here?
Pike, perch, bream, roach, and carp, among reeds, peat pits, and quiet navigation channels, with birds you never see from the road. You can also rent a boat without sleeping on board.
By the Swette, sheltered and also all year round
Op Pean-buiten In Weidum, you fish from the shore and from the jetty on the Swette, the Elfstedenwater. Everyone knows the large lakes and skips the canals; that is why it is quiet here.
What do you catch here?
Sheltered water with pike, perch, and bream, and usually no one next to you. Pean-buiten Weidum is a quiet place and primarily aimed at adults; it is quiet on the grounds from 23:00 PM onwards.
The Fiskfergunning, since 2026
Since January 1, 2026, Friesland has had its own fishing permit: the Fiskfergunning from Sportvisserij Fryslân. This replaces the national VISpas, and a German Fischereischein is not valid here. You are not allowed to fish here without a permit.
Day permit or week pass?
Day permit: 6 euros, online at Sportvisserij FryslânWeek pass: 15 euros with us. From three fishing days onwards, the week pass is more economical. You can see which waters are included in the Fiskwizer, the accompanying digital map.
When you fish for something
There is almost always something to catch; you match your target fish to the season. Autumn and winter are the best time for predatory fish, while summer is for whitefish and carp.

When is it closed?
Pike fishing is closed from March 1st to the last Saturday of May, and zander and perch from April 1st to the end of May. Additionally, there is a ban on artificial lures in the spring. Whitefish and carp are permitted almost all year round.

Just out of season
Most guests come in the summer. Fishermen come in the spring, autumn, and winter — and that is exactly when the water is calmest.
A cottage by the water in November, the heater on, and back ashore by seven o'clock. That is a different holiday than the same place in July, and many people don't know it's possible.

Near Akkrum, peat pike, perch, bream, roach, and carp. Near Weidum, pike, perch, and bream in the Swette, and zander in the lakes towards Sneek.
When is the closed season?
Pike fishing is closed from March 1st to the last Saturday of May. Zander and perch from April 1st to the end of May. An artificial lure ban also applies in the spring. Whitefish and carp are allowed almost all year round.
Can I rent a boat to fish?
Op Pean-buiten In Akkrum, you rent an electric sloop and sail into the national park. No boating license required. On Pean-buiten You can fish Weidum from the shore and the jetty.
Do you rent out fishing rods?
No. You bring your own stuff. You arrange the week pass with us, though.
